Oracle Autonomous Database vs Open-Source Solutions: An Overview

Abstract

In the contemporary world of data management, organizations are left with a significant decision of choosing between the closed cloud-based self-driven database solutions like Oracle Autonomous Database or the open-source solutions available in large numbers such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB. This paper offers a comparative strategic analysis of Oracle’s autonomous versions of the systems with open-source ones regarding performance, scalability, cost, security, operational automation, and the ability to address the needs of an enterprise-level company. With respect to each of the options, we consider its long-term effects using evaluation and examples in various sectors. This paper aims to provide valuable insights to IT managers facing the issue of the choice of databases and the key concepts of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and cloud-native architecture of data platforms. Based on empirical studies, simulation, and architectural perspectives are the major components of this broad work.
