Abstract

Waterfall and Agile methods represent two widely used approaches for managing medium-scale software projects with different levels of planning, flexibility, documentation, and stakeholder involvement. Medium-scale projects often require balanced control because they are larger than simple application builds but usually do not have the extreme complexity of enterprise-scale programs. Traditional Waterfall development offers structured phases, clear documentation, and predictable milestones, while Agile development supports iterative delivery, frequent feedback, and adaptive requirement handling. This article presents a comparative study of Waterfall and Agile methods in medium-scale projects by examining schedule control, requirement stability, team coordination, cost management, documentation effort, testing practices, and delivery quality. The study discusses how Waterfall may be suitable for stable and compliance-driven projects, whereas Agile may perform better in projects with evolving requirements and active client participation. The article concludes that method selection should depend on project size, requirement clarity, stakeholder availability, risk level, and delivery expectations rather than treating one approach as universally superior.
