Abstract

Model-driven development is important for improving software design consistency, documentation quality, and development productivity by using models as primary artifacts in the software engineering process. UML diagrams provide structured representations of system requirements, architecture, behavior, class relationships, workflows, and component interactions before implementation begins. Traditional code-first development may lead to design inconsistency, weak documentation, repeated manual coding, and difficulty in maintaining alignment between requirements and source code. This article focuses on model-driven development using UML and code generation tools by examining how class diagrams, sequence diagrams, activity diagrams, component models, and transformation rules can support automatic or semi-automatic code creation. The study discusses how UML-based modeling and code generation can reduce repetitive coding effort, improve traceability, support design validation, and maintain consistency between software models and implementation. The article concludes that model-driven development can improve software maintainability, reduce development errors, accelerate implementation, and support more disciplined software engineering practices.
